Magento 2 – We’re ready!

UPDATE: The Nimbus Hosting Control Panel, STORM, is now fully compliant with Magento 1 and Magento 2. STORM also includes a one click install for both Magento 1 and Magento 2.
An exciting time lies ahead for eCommerce as Magento 2 is now working and ready to go! With this new version of Magento
you’ll find many improvements including;

  • Database improvements – Not only will the databases respond much quicker but you can now have a separate MySQL database for order management and checkout.
  • Speed! – up to 50% faster than Magento 1.9
  • Full page Caching – means the site should run faster as this new version can do proactive caching while in production mode.
  • Magento 2 now uses the Zend Framework – making performance issues like cache engine, translations and the database access layer a problem of the past.

Hosting requirements for Magento 2:

Requires a LAMP or LNMP stack
Operating System
Linux x86-64
Web Server
Apache 2.2x +
Nginx 1.7.x
Database
PHP
PHP 5.6X
PHP 5.5X
MySQL 5.6 (Oracle or Percona)

We’d recommend at least 50GB Disk Space, you can have a look at our cloud packages HERE.

How we’ve prepared:

Our Super-brew Server is the only template that is “ready” as it has been specifically built to optimise the eCommerce platform. One big change in Magento 2.x is that it now requires a package called composer, this is installed on the super brew template. Other server types can run Magento 2, but changes will need to be made in order for it to work efficiently.

What’s worth considering before?

It’s worth bearing in mind that there is no direct upgrade path from Magento 1 to Magento 2. The store will need to be completely recreated. Because of this we really recommend that the Magento 2 Store is tested thoroughly in a development environment before you shut down the Magento 1 store and change the DNS.

Although Magento 2 is now available on CPanel or with a base install (no control panel), unfortunately it’s still unavailable on a Plesk set up.

As there is no direct upgrade path, you’ll need to chat to your developer about your upgrade to Magento2.

If you have any questions or want to find out more please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
