Server Backups

Digital data is fast becoming many small companies most valuable asset, yet a surprising amount of these organisations have no real strategy for backing it up!

Why do I need a backup system?

If you are hosting with Nimbus, you can rest assured that we are running disk redundancy on all servers so a disk failure will not affect the servers in any way. That being said, hardware failure is not the only threat to your data.

Malicious Damage

Accidental Deletion

Data Corruption

Did you know?

A recent survey found that 60% of companies that lose their data will shut down within six months and that companies that cannot resume normal operations within ten days due to severe data loss are not likely to survive.

Nimbus Backups - FAQ's

Onsite and Offsite - whats the difference?

Onsite Backups - a nightly backup of your entire server and exports of all DB’s and 30 day snapshot history kept. Stored on our dedicated backup node at the same Data Centre as your server.

Offsite Backups- same plan/storage as onsite backups, but data is taken offsite to an entirely different Data Centre at a separate geographical location.

Are Offsite Backups transferred securely?

YES! They are securely sent to the secondary DC in 256 bit encryption.

What happens if I don't spot an issue straight away?

Our backups store 30 days worth of history of your entire server including all databases. They are stored in separate snapshots so you can go back to a specific date within those 30 days.

What time are the backups taken each day?

When we first configure the backups, we schedule them to run at around 2am UK time each night. The time can vary depending where you are in the backup schedule. Alternatively, we can set this to run at a time of your suiting, just let us know.

Do I have to have the whole server restored or can I just get a specific file/database?

You can get an individual file restored or the whole site/server.

Do I have to do the restores myself?

Certainly not! It's a fully managed service, so you can just request a restore, and we'll handle the rest for you.

Can I/My Developer get access to the backups?

Absolutely! We can give you your own login to the backups system, where you can restore files, or even download them locally to look at!
