At this time of year, some of our forum clients see a rise in spam account registrations as spammers begin targeting shoppers for Christmas. During the 2012 festive period, ecommerce sales in the UK alone are forecast to grow by 14% to £7.75bn – exactly why there is an increase spam.
Luckily, there are a few handy tools to help automatically identify and stop these spammers.
- IP.Board: Forum Spammer IP & Email Check via stopforumspam
- PHPBB: Anti-Spam ACP
- Vbulletin: vbStopForumSpam
- Xenforo: Stop Spam Here – $15
(These are just examples that some of our clients are using, there are lots more available, so have a look at them all and select the one that best suits your requirements and budget).
These add-ons interrogate special databases of details to check new registrations for spam activity, based on the registrants email address, username or IP address.
